Beberpa yang paling familiar dan popular adalah Bitcoin dan Ethereum.
Semakin populernya mata uang kripto di Indonesia membuat pemerintah memberikan perhatian lebih. Melalui bappebti badan yang memiliki wewenang dalam mengawasi dan membuat aturan mengenai mata uang kripto. Asset kripto yang boelh diperdagangkan di Indonesia harus memiliki izin dari bappebti. Sejarah Mata Uang Kripto
Pada tahun 1983 David Chaum seorang hali kriptografi asal Amerika Serikat berhasil membuat uang elektronik kriptografi yang diberi nama E-Cash. Kemudian pada tahun 1995 David Chaun mengimplemantasikan lewat Digicash sebagai awal mula pembayaran elektronik kripto. Selain David Chaum ada beberapa ilmuan yang membuat system mata uang kripto, akan tetapi tidak ada satupun dari penemuan mereka berhasil. Meskipun begitu, karya David chaum dan kawan-kawannya merupakan tonggak awal system mata uang kripto.
Baru pada tahun 2009 seorang ilmuan asal Jepang Bernama Satoshi Nakamoto merilis mata uang kripto pertama yang kita kenal yaitu Bitcoin. Setelah peluncurannya banyak pihak yang mendukung terutama dari para pelaku kriptografi. Dengan menggunakan topologi peer-to-peer, Bitcoin dibuat dengan menggunakan sistem topologi peer-to-peer, yang tidak memungkinkan untuk pihak otoritas atau pemerintah manapun memanipulasi.
Cara Kerja Mata Uang Kripto
Pada dasarnya ada tiga kunci utama yang terdapat pada cara kerja uang kripto yaitu digital, terenkripsi, dan terakhir desentralisasi. Tidak seperti mata uang konvensional pada umumnya, mata uang kripto berbentuk digital dan tidak dikontrol atau diatur oleh otoritas pusat manapun yang secara teoritis kebal dari campur tangan atau manipulasi pihak lain. Pada buku yang ditulis oleh Nakamoto menjelaskan bahwa asset uang kripto sebagai system pembayaran elektronik yang berlandaskan bukti kriptografi bukan hanya sekedar kepercayaan. Bukti dari kriptografi tersebut ada dalam bentuk transaksi yang sudah diverifikasi dan dicatat dalam program yang disebut blockchain.

Regulasi Mata Uang Kripto di Indonesia
Dalam beberapa tahun belakangan ini trend mata uang kripto di Indonesia menjadi sangat popular. Hal ini menjadi sorotan bagi pemerintah, di Indonesia sendiri badan yang mengawasi perdagangan asset kripto adalah bappebti. Berdasarkan data yang dikeluarkan Kementrian perdagangan (kemendag) jumlah dari investor asset mata uang kripto sudah mencapai 6,5 juta orang pada tahun 2021. Dan terus mengalami peningkatan tiap tahunnya dari tahun 2020.
Daftar Mata Uang Kripto yang Legal di Indonesia
Melalui Bappebti menyatakan bahwa pemerintah sudah memberikan izin perdagangan mata uang kripto atau asset digital di Indonesia. Izin tersebut dikeluarkan sendiri oleh Badan Pengawas Perdagangan Berjangka Komoditi atau Bappebti. Dalam aturan tersebut menjelaskan asset kripto apa saja yang memiliki izin resmi di Indonesia. Bappebti berharap dengan adanya peraturan tersebut mampu memberikan kepastian hukum dan perlindungan bagi masyarakat yang bertransaksi asset kripto di Indonesia. Bappebti juga wajib melakukan delisting terhadap asset kripto yang tidak mendapatkan izin. Berikut adalah daftar mata uang kripto yang resmi terdaftar dan mengantongi izin di Indonesia :
